Product Reviews

Product: Dragon Storm
Publisher: Black Dragon Press
Retail Price: About $10 for main pack, $2.50 for boosters
Type: Trading Card Game, with dice
Reviewer: Josh Deren - cyrabyte@hotmail.com

Talk about taking a new direction on an old game! Dragon storm takes the best in card games (multi-person playability, low cost, ability to gather cards) and mixes it with the ability to actually role-play using the cards! The game moves as fast as the players wish, and can be tailored for any age or character!

The main pack consists of character cards (Dragons, Unicorns, Gargoyles or Werewolves), items (weapons, armor, etc.), backgrounds (where you were born, raised, etc.), spells and the GM cards, which are used to make the world you travel in. You only need two people to play, but like any role-playing game, the more, the merrier. And the best thing: it doesn't get bogged down quickly by having more than four people in the group.

Having played this once, I am looking forward to becoming a permanent part of a friend's campaign. The game has definite appeal: a good storyline basis and the ability to expand in any direction the players wish. One of the best parts: Black Dragon Press has said that they will sell any of the cards for the game from their own website, regardless of availability (common, uncommon, rare, very rare) for only $2.50 apiece. With this kind of offer, how can you refuse a game like this?
